The standards of British breeds of cats
B British breed everyone knows. Polls. You can often hear: “the British? Ah, it’s such a chubby little blue?” Exactly. Only be aware that really “chubby” only cats are still cats on a “girl’s oval”.
And the British are not only “blue”, i.e. blue. They can be black (it’s all about my love!), red and white, and marbled, striped, and bicolor (the bicolor), and Siamese (color points), and silver, and even gold. But everything in order.
BODY Stocky, not loose, cobby-type, straight back, short. The chest is broad. Shoulders broad, massive, and thighs. Sizes – from medium to large.
The most important and first question asked to the owner: “how much does he weigh?” Well to measure this category of animal beauty? Some owners in favor of those interested in really too perecherkivaet British cats. And the animal becomes not massive, but just thick. Citizens for pity’s sake! Think of the heart your pet! He’s hard to beat! And then that fat cat is ugly. The British, no doubt, love to eat, but you need to adjust the calories consumed.
Head the HEAD is round with well developed cheeks, wide at the cheekbones, emphasizing its round shape. Neck – short, thick. The nose is short, wide and direct. In profile, the round forehead turns into a short, straight nose (the transition should not be very obvious, but noticeable).
The biggest problem is round forehead. Fortunately, animals with good frontal part became more and more to appear at exhibitions. I’m so tired of peeing on the score sheet, the phrase “rather flat forehead”. When you put the brush on his head – fingers all need to make a bend, the hand should be a little “a Cup” and not be exactly straight, as in “summer salute”.
The EYES are Large, round, well opened and set well apart. Usually the problem is not so much with form as with the color – there are not enough rich color and unacceptable green rim around the pupil.
The standard does not specify the desired expression of the eyes, many prefer an open, somewhat naive opinion. I’m impressed by the quite heavy, serious assessing. Still, I think that the animal cobby-type with strong bones, large,
round massive head should look accordingly. Make everything harmonious.
MUZZLE the muzzle is also not going smoothly as we would like. Found skinny, with a long narrow spout. Or Vice versa – typically saksofony the transition from the nose to the forehead – deep stop. Sometimes a very strange structure of the muzzle, which is one very dear to me (and by all, I think) according to the expert, well-aimed expression, “the effect of the charge of a muzzle”. Exactly. The head alone and face just put.
The chin is strong, smooth. Nose and chin are vertical. Well, there are for all breeds faults: undershot, narrower chin. Ears small, rounded, low and wide apart. With ears the last time was much better – “rabbit set” (which relies on Russian blue, for example) is less and less.
LEGS AND FEET Legs short and thick. Legs are round – strong, dense. Unfortunately, too many of our British cats “spoiled” ties with their ancestral folds. More recently binding fold – the British were quite commonplace. As a result, the limbs become longer and not as powerful as it should be. I would add that most feline organizations such matings are now banned.
The TAIL is Thick, medium in length, rounded at the tip, broad at the base. As a result of past matings with folds we sometimes have the tail is the “carrot” is narrowed at the end.
WOOL For wool accounts for 20 marks out of 100. It should be short, dense, shiny, dense, with thick undercoat. Too soft coat and/or too long and/or tight – deficiency.
In most feline organizations not recognized by the British with long hair, although such proposals come from breeders. For example at the conference of MFA, the majority expressed the view that, recognizing DS-variation, we turn into nothing a long and hard work of breeders, so many years diligently selected for breeding producers of wool “beaver” – supple, plush.
Long hair – an unfortunate legacy left to us since the formation of the breed, when to weight the skeleton and increase the size of the eyes in breeding was used by the Persians and exotics. But this strategy breeders quickly refused, and extra-long wool left. Gene its forming, moved to a hidden, recessive form and “hiding” in the gene pool. Therefore, two apparently totally standard Shorthair British longhair may well be born a descendant, although in visible pedigree is none other than the British no. The British Shorthair is a compact, strong, harmoniously composed of a cat. These kittens are pedigree or not issued at all, or is marked “not for breeding”, and it removed all the tribal ancestors room. Long hair brought us, it is not strange sounds, and even the folds, mating with whom, remember, were officially allowed. I remember those distant times when to improve the type of the British Persians and exotics have not been used in breeding programs and mating British cats with similar phenotype lop-eared cats were practiced everywhere. Born mostly Shorthair kittens (if the cat is not carrying long hair gene), but at the genetic level, the vast majority of them became owners of this breed need not a hidden gene.
I like really want the further successful development of all breeds. But in the restoration of British rock in the form as described by the standard, I just agree to take a personal part. After all, this is my most-favorite breed.
